Champagne Moments: How Onyx turns Ambitions into Achievements

Five business women cheersing with champagne

In an industry like Condo & Property Management that can be full of distractions and shifting priorities, setting and achieving goals can be like trying to hit a moving target. At Onyx, we think about goals a little differently. Of course we have structured S.M.A.R.T. goals that we work to meet, but we also have what are called "Champagne Moments".

Every month we ask each Team Member to sit down and think: If you were going to achieve one thing in the next 30 days that would give you a sense of accomplishment and would be significant to you — so significant that you're going to pop some champagne and we're going to celebrate — what would that one thing be? That's a Champagne Moment.

On the first Friday of each month we gather in the Onyx Board Room, pop a bottle of bubbles (non-alcoholic available too) and review each person's Champagne Moment from the previous month. If a Champagne Moment was met, we have a cheers! If it wasn't, we examine why and offer suggestions to move the person closer to meeting it. Of course, we still cheers the effort! Once we have gone around the table, we each announce our new Champagne Moment for the month. It may be condo-related, like finally getting through to Bell to fix an issue, business related - like signing on a new client, or it could be personal, like successfully completing the Condo Law course working towards a General License.

Everyone's Champagne Moment is posted to the white board in the centre of the Onyx office so we can have a daily reminder of what we are all working towards.

In the fast-paced world of Condo & Property Management, staying focused on goals can be challenging. This practice not only helps in maintaining motivation but also fosters a supportive environment where achievements, big or small, are recognized and celebrated. By sharing these goals and progress openly, we keep everyone inspired and driven.
